The whole biography of Calvin needs to go into therapy. Say the marriage was contrived. Say he sent his wife away on their honeymoon because she was just cover, and he made up the story of God wanting to dim their “joy.”

I realize when reading Christian biographers, they assume everything their hero is saying is transparently true. They should be studying closeted gay narratives to see the lies that are told, the panic, evasions, manipulations, the double-speak, the attacks on fellow gays.

It’d be a great prelude to Biblical study. There’s a really interesting Bible paper, “Boaz Reawakened,” which as an experiment assigns Boaz in the book of Ruth a homoerotic nature.

Suddenly, a quite different storyline appears.
