Thank you for the attention to the details. For me there's two very problematic details. First, that Wayne Bailey seems to have been hired by the family prior to the birth of Josh McDowell, but the abuse narrative has Wayne coming along at age 6.

Second, two older boys disappear from the later memoir. Abuse and porn exposure by older boys on younger boys is very common, but is a less easy story to tell than a homosexual predator story. Especially, for example, if a brother was involved.

So there could well be a real abuse narrative that gets shifted to the gay employee as a narrative and ideological convenience.
